Fedeli Italian Whole Peeled Tomatoes are packed in the Agro Sarnese-Nocerino area in the Campania region of Italy.  This area is near Mount Vesuvio and is one of the most fertile lands for the growth of tomatoes. 

Our packing partner is a family run business that has been growing and canning tomatoes for over 35 years.  They place a strong focus on consistent and high quality tomatoes. 

Now for some tomato facts for all the real tomato fans out there:

The Tomato: When you open a can of tomatoes, you want to check to make sure that they’re all pretty close in size, still whole and a nice bright red color, with little to no yellowing on the tops of the tomato. We checked ours. They're great.

The Tomato Juice:  An important way to determine the quality of the canned tomato is by analyzing the juice.  Typically, a thicker juice should result in a more concentrated and better tasting tomato.  A more exact way this can be done is by measuring the “Brix” level. Most 28oz Italian canned tomatoes are somewhere between a 5.0-6.0 Brix level.  Fedeli Tomatoes are between 6.0-6.5 Brix level. Our tomato juice is thicker and better tasting than the other brands. We got Brix for days. 

What exactly is the “Brix level” and how does it effect the quality of canned tomatoes? Dang. Good Question. We got you.

The Brix level is the percentage of solids (natural minerals and sugars) present in the juice of a plant. The Brix level is directly linked to the health of the soil in which the tomato plant is grown.  A higher Brix level is an indication that the plant has been grown in a healthy soil with sufficient nutrients and water.  This all translates into a better tasting product, thicker juice, with more flavor and better nutrition. 

Most Italian food companies won't take you through these minute details, but it's important to us and we think our customers should know.
